Small Refrigerators Come In Many Shapes and Sizes

By Leon Nye

A small refrigerator can refer to a wide range of appliance sizes. The smallest group is commonly known as compact cube refrigerators. Then there are midsized refrigerators which are larger than the compact cubes but are smaller than the largest of small refrigerators. Then there are small refrigerators that are large enough to include a special function like ice makers.

Despite the wildly small refrigerators, the most common of refrigerators on the small end of the scale usually offer around 2.8 cubic feet of storage space. These are sometimes referred to as compact cube refrigerators because they almost take the form of a perfectly shaped cube. These are probably the smallest while still being useful and often make good beverage refrigerators. These refrigerators are also good for small snacks and the freezer compartment is typically half-width which is hardly useable.

A midsized refrigerator is anything from the compact cube to 10 cubic feet. Typical models are approximately 8 cubic feet with full width freezer compartments at the top. These units have just enough space to be used as the only refrigerator for some people such as college students or early bachelors who do not have a lot of groceries.

The largest of small refrigerators are sometimes known as apartment sized refrigerators. These are usually just less than' cubic feet which is the upper limit to a standard sized refrigerator. As its name suggests, apartment refrigerators are most often used in apartments or homes with small kitchens that cannot comfortably accommodate a full sized refrigerator.

There are small refrigerators that are large enough to offer specialty functions such as ice makers and separate freezer compartments. The extra storage space is really the greatest convenience that larger units offer and the separate freezer compartment is something that makes these the best substitute for full sized refrigerators.

Mini refrigerators are useful in many circumstances and are usually a welcomed gift so long as there is room in the house for it. It offers a lot of benefits and conveniences to have a dedicated space for beverages or other small consumable. - 32406
